Bangkok & Wat Pho

We only had a very short time in Bangkok. The city was a two hour bus trip from where we arrived.
Unfortunately we wasted the first two hours in town at a shopping centre trying to score some cheap clothes, bags, sunglasses, shoes and what not.
We were very dissappointed.

Everything was very over priced, the area was dull, and generally felt like a big tourist trap.
I would recommend that if you visit this city that you dedicate as much time as possible to soaking up all of the rich culture the city has to offer.

We caught the ferry to Wat Pho Temples, and if we had more time we would have stopped at the Grand Palace as well, but unfortunately time was not on our side on this day.
The Wat Pho Temple complex originally housed the education of medicine, and is considered as Thailand's first university. Today it is UNESCO heritage listed and used primarily as a place of worship.

1.  Wat Pho Temple's Reclining Buddha - The full official name for this particular sculpture is in fact.... wait for it...
Wat Phra Chettuphon Wimon Mangkhlaram Ratchworamahawihan
This might not look like much in a photo, but this sculpture is in fact 43 metres long and 15 metres tall and completely gold plated except for the soles of its feet which are decorated with detailed mother of pearl featuring 108 auspicious symbols of Buddha.
This makes it the largest reclining Buddha in Thailand.

2. Maintenance at Wat Pho Temples.
I'm not sure what this lady was doing, but it looked like a process that was long and intricate.

3. Temple Spires

4. Statue next to the exit.
He just looked so angry, so I had to get a photo.
