City Of Shadows - Malthouse Edition

It was all of one month ago that I revisited the project I initially thought would have been a one off, and could have only ever have dreamed it would go as far as it has.

City Of Shadows went all the way to Melbourne for an eleven show season at The Malthouse Theatre.

Here's some visuals of the experience overall.

We Stayed in this sweet million dollar pad.

It took a team of this many people to run the show.

On the last show night Rachael did my hair like this

And now some sweet pics of the show.......

Then after all that, Melbourne Fringe Festival gave us one of these.

In The Pines and THE TOUR!

With such a hectic tour schedule last week I had no time to post!

But here's the breakdown of it.

1. In The Pines - Amazing

2. Best city we played on tour - Sydney. Always Sydney

3. Worst show we played on tour - None. They were all awesome.

Enough of the boring text stuff. Now for some visual information.

1. In The Pines. Great crowd!

2. The vehicle. Business is the front. Party in the back.

3. ABC Hobart. We did a half hour live set, which surprisingly only amounted to three songs given that Tim likes to talk a lot.

4. ABC Hobart Studio

5. The gang en route to Brisbane.....or was it Adelaide? It's all a bit of a blur.

6. The show at The Beresford in Sydney. Definitely the best show of the tour.

7. The tour van. When you travel with a touring party of nine and all their gear, the hours you wasted playing Tetris as a child suddenly become of great use.

8. The Toff Melbourne.

9. The Toff Melbourne.

More coming soon

The Pre-Tour "Warm Up" Run

Even though tour is just days away, I, as part of Timothy Nelson & The Infidels, have so many other things to be excited about!

Over 3 days we will play FOUR MASSIVE SHOWS!

1. IN THE PINES! For years I have dreamt of playing this festival run by local radio station RTRfm. It is like the mecca of local music. The best of the best. And this year, being it is their 20th anniversary, bands are reforming, travelling interstate and coming back to Perth to help celebrate. I'm happy to be a part of any In The Pines, but this year, the line up is unreal and I can't believe we have been selected to join these talented people.
Not only do I get to play with Timothy Nelson & The Infidels as I would regularly, but I am also super excited to be joining Felicity Groom and the reformed Schvendes on stage during their sets too!
Best of all....... It's Sold Out!

2. Fat Shan Record Store day. While I believe it's just Tim doing a DJ set, I'll still be there drinking and partying. Support your local record store and buy some stuff this Saturday!
Fat Shan's is especially worth supporting as they take 0% commission from local artist sales in their store. Now that is how you build a community people!

3. "Hatched" at PICA (Perth Institute of Contemporary Art) showcases the best of the year 12 graduate art from 2012. And We're so happy to be a part of the opening party! We get to play outdoors in the Perth Cultural Centre. (I love outdoor stages)

4. 78 Records Record Store day party. We like to share the love and so we're playing at two of these parties. Support local music and the people who stock them.

Photos are sure to follow during and after the weekend!

A couple of months ago Infidels played Fat Shan's Festivus II.

Here's a couple of promo videos Tim has done with Fat Shans.

So much happening!

A Cup That Was Far From Empty

The Empty Cup is a band in which I personally have less managerial input that I have ever had in any other group I've been a regular part of.

This makes playing nothing but fun.

The tunes are great, the members are incredible, and hopefully one day we can all get our shit together, release some tunes and hit the road to show them to the country.

A few pictures from some of The Empty Cup's show over the last couple of months.

1. Empty Sounds EP launch @ Bok Choy Ballroom as part of Perth Fringe Festival

2. The Empty Cup @ Astor Theatre supporting Matt Gresham.

3. Empty w/ strings @ PICA Bar

4. The Empty Cup @ Astor Theatre supporting Matt Gresham

5. The Empty Cup @ Astor Theatre supporting Matt Gresham

Sofar Sounds

A little something from the video archives.

Timothy Nelson and myself played at a little night called Sofar
Songs From A Room is a worldwide ordeal and basically, you play completely acoustically to a loungeroom full of people. The whole thing is not for profit and some massive names have played at locations around the world.

The mics are simply there for the purposes of recording.
A song from Timothy Nelson & The Infidels forthcoming sophomore album.

This is Caroline.

The Tour That Was To Be

Not long now and I'll be on the road for six consecutive nights of partying, playing, jetting, and networking around the country.

Sound to good to be true?
Well it is.

The hard fact is that touring is tough.
This five day tour will no doubt have me out of action for a couple of weeks when I get home. I now find it very easy to understand why so many rockstars end up ODing. You try getting through months at a time of waking up in a different city each day, having only slept a few hours. If you're lucky.

Let me take you through a typical day of touring
You get up at 4am after having only gotten home at 2am from the show the previous night.
Lobby call is generally 4 or 5am as you usually need to hop on the earliest flight out being the 6am.
You drag yourself to the airport (if you're lucky like us, you'll have your own roadie to load your gear and drive you around but most bands don't have that luxury), get in an hour or two of sleep on the plane. Then you land around 8-9am, collect the hire car, and drop the band off at the hotel.
But not the whole band, usually it's just the rhythm section and engineer.
Then the tour manager, roadie and singer hit the road for morning interviews and drop ins. This usually takes a few hours and then we're back at the hotel for lunch by just after midday.
come 3pm you're either sound checking, rehearsing, or cramming in as many meetings as humanly possible. Then come 5pm you're off to soundcheck for sure, you might go and get some dinner between sound check and bedtime. Most gigs finish up around midnight, and if you're a headliner act (which on tour you usually are) that's when you finish, then you get a few drinks in there and head off to bed around 2:00ish

And then repeat for a number of days.

But the fact that it's hard work doesn't mean it's not fun.
Touring is the best bonding time a band can have. Being around one another when you're all that grumpy and sleep deprived is a perfect recipe for drama, but a lot of shit gets aired and you all come back playing better, doing business better and working together better.

Above is my first crack at designing my own tour poster.
Not bad? I think I did okay.

The image was taken by yours truly on the last tour when we visited MONA whilst in Hobart.
Amazing gallery, hoping we can fit in another visit when we're in Hobart again in a couple of weeks.

We took many amazing snaps of Tim which we've used for tons of publicity, maybe something I should include in my post tomorrow.
